Mid-Range -Best of the Mid-Range Portable Vaporizers

Best Mid-Range Portable Weed Vaporizers: Found, Tested and Reviewed. This section features the best of the mid-range portable cannabis vaporizers. While they don’t necessarily qualify to be top-tier vapes, they are still high quality devices that rank higher in terms of performance than the more budget vapes.

Many of the vaporizers in this section were once considered top-tier but have been surpassed by new and improved devices recently released.

Best Mid-Range Portable Weed Vaporizers: Found, Tested and Reviewed. The vaporizers in this section, for the most part, are less expensive than the top shelf vapes but still perform exceedingly well.

Some of the vaporizers on this page a capable of vaporizing both dry herbs as well as concentrates, while some a strictly dry herb vaporizers.

Each one performs very well with dried bud, while some perform better than others with concentrates.

My method for ranking vaporizers starts with performance and purity of vapor. The next most important item for portable vaporizers is battery life per charge. Lately many devices started featuring replaceable batteries which is a big plus as you can vape without interruption.

Best Mid-Range Portable Weed Vaporizers: Found, Tested and Reviewed. Vapor production, durability (ruggedness) and stealth are next, followed lastly by price. I know most people look at price first, but I learned a long time ago that cheaper in terms of price can very often be more expensive in the long run.

The first vaporizer I bought, I bought based on price rather than the Volcano that High Times had recommended. Not only did I regret it, but I went back and bought the Volcano anyway.

Had I just started with the one I really wanted, I would have saved myself the initial purchase which ended up being largely a waste as I only used it until I got the Volcano.

So, for me, price is the last consideration and the rankings bear that in mind. One thing I can assure you is that each and every vaporizer listed on these pages I have personally enjoyed using and would gladly recommend to anyone.

I have made it quite clear to all manufacturers who have approached me to review their products that I would only be writing a review and adding it to the pages if it was worthwhile and something I would use myself.

That being said, there have been so many new vapes coming out these last few years that it’s hard to keep up sometimes, and they now need to be sub-categorized.

Best Portable Vaporizers: Mid-Range Vaporizer Reviews

So don’t let the mid-range category make you think that the vapes below are somehow sub-par as they are far from it. They are in fact, the best of the best mid-range portable weed vaporizers currently on the market.

My personal top pick for quite a long time was the DaVinci Ascent. The Ascent features a fully ceramic heating chamber and borosilicate glass vapor path and retractable mouthpiece.

Unlike the IQ, the Ascent is compatible with dry herb as well as concentrates. The purity of the flavor is fantastic and it thoroughly vapes through all my material without needing to be stirred.

The glass vapor path along with ample airflow cool the vapor quite nicely even at the hottest temperatures. The Ascent features a fully digital display and is adjustable in one degree increments up to 430 degrees Fahrenheit.

The Ascent also features the longest lasting battery of any portable vaporizer and lasts up to 3 hours per charge. Click here for the full review.

Grenco Science’s new G-Pen Elite is one of my favorite new vaporizers to come out this year. It is a comfortable fit in the hand with it’s ergonomic design and produces some remarkably pure and great tasting vapor.

The G-Pen Elite features a fully ceramic heating chamber and an attractive digital LED screen. Vaping temperature is fully adjustable in one degree increments.

The G-Pen Elite charges using a micro USB connection and is less expensive than you’d expect based on the quality of the device. Read the full review here.

#5 The Tourist 2 in 1 by Focus-Vape

Tourist Vaporizer Review by Focus-Vape-Performance:  91/100

-Vapor quality:  96/100

-Pocketability:  78/100

-Discreetness:  78/100

-Usage time per charge:  Up to 90 minutes per 18650

-Price:  $$

-Overall: 89/100

The New Tourist Vaporizer by Focus-Vape is a 2 in 1 vape that does a great job vaporizing both dried marijuana bud and concentrates like hash, wax, shatter, etc.

The Tourist features a fully ceramic heating chamber for dry herb and a Titanium enail and water bubbler for concentrates. Like the IQ and the Air, the Tourist uses a removable 18650 electronics battery which can easily be switched out on the go.

The Tourist performs very well with all my medicine, providing clouds of pure, sweet tasting vapor. The only real drawback in my opinion is that it is a little on the bulky side for a portable. Click here for the full review.

#6 -The Air by Arizer

Arizer Air Review -Mid Range -Best of the Mid Range Herbal Vaporizers-Performance:  94/100

-Vapor quality:  96/100

-Pocketability:  85/100

-Discreetness:  75/100

-Usage time per charge:  Up to 60 minutes

-Price:  $$

-Overall: 88/100

The Arizer Air has been referred to by many as the “Solo Mini” because it really is a smaller version of the beloved Arizer Solo. Like the Solo, the Air uses a stainless steel heating chamber and a detachable glass vapor path. The Air produces some remarkably pure and clean tasting vapor and is a pleasure to use.

Similar to the IQ, the Air allows for the 18650 battery to be changed and charged separately allowing for continuous vaping on the go. The Air features 5 preset temperature settings and is one of the easiest vaporizers to use, load and clean.

The glass vapor paths are separate from the device itself which makes it slightly less portable that some others on this page, but Arizer does include a carrying case which does help keep things together on the go. It is certainly a lot more comfortable to carry around than the Solo was!

Another great vape overall. Read the full review here.

#7 -The V2 Series 7

V2 Pro Series 7 Review -Mid Range -Best of the Mid Range Herbal Vaporizers-Performance:  83/100

-Vapor quality:  84/100

-Pocketability:  98/100

-Discreetness:  98/100

-Usage time per charge:  Up to 90 minutes

-Price:  $$

-Overall: 86/100

The V2 Pro Series 7 is made by V2 Cigs, one of the longest standing and largest e-cig manufacturers in the world. The Pro Series 7 is their latest offering. It’s predecessor the V2 Pro Series 3, was the first vape-pen to actually vaporize dry herb.

The new V2 Pro Series 7 is a three-in-one vaporizer capable of vaporizing not only dry herb, but concentrates and e-liquid as well. For anyone who uses e-liquid vaporizers on top of dry herb or wax vapes, this is a great option as it would be the only device you would need for all three!

The V2 Pro Series 7 features a stainless steel heating chamber for dry herb, a “stove top” style coil for concentrates and a uniquely designed tank/atomizer combination for e-liquid.

Although it works, I’m personally not a huge fan of the concentrate chamber. I have never been a huge fan of the exposed stove top coils for concentrates although I know it’s a personal preference. The dry herb and e-liquid attachments however, work quite well.

For anyone vaping dry bud and e-liquid, it’s one I highly recommend. Click here for the full review.

#8 -The Atom by VaporFi

VaporFi Atom Review -Mid Range -Best of the Mid Range Herbal Vaporizers-Performance:  84/100

-Vapor quality:  84/100

-Pocketability:  98/100

-Discreetness:  98/100

-Usage time per charge:  Up to 120 minutes

-Price:  $$

-Overall: 85/100

VaporFi, another long standing vape manufacturer is known for both their superior electronic cigarettes as well as their dry herb vaporizers. Their original offering, the Orbit still finds itself on this list after almost 6 years.

The Atom is designed quite similarly to the Pax Series, featuring a stainless steel heating chamber and vapor path. The oven door and vapor quality are also quite reminiscent of the Pax Series, but it’s lees that half the price of even the original Pax.

The VaporFi Atom features 4 preset temperature settings and a uniquely designed mouthpiece that is comfortable to puff on and stays quite cool even after extended use.

For those who like the Pax style vaporizer but are on a tighter budget, it’s definitely one to take a close look at. Read the full review here.

#9 -The Solo by Arizer

Arizer Solo Review -Mid Range -Best of the Mid Range Herbal Vaporizers-Performance:  92/100

-Vapor quality:  94/100

-Pocketability:  59/100

-Discreetness:  65/100

-Usage time per charge:  Up to 120 minutes

-Price:  $$

-Overall: 84/100

The beloved Solo was one of the first great portable vaporizers on the market and still performs equally well today in terms of both vapor production and purity.

The Solo features 7 preset temperatures for a little more user control that some others, is ruggedly designed and mine performs quite well even after over 4 years of use.

I love the vapor quality but it’s shaped like a soda can so it loses points for portability and discreetness. When you factor in the glass vapor paths which aren’t attached, it’s not as portable as many others.

One trick I have learned to make it more discreet is to put it in a paper soda cup with a straw lid and puff on the “straw” when out in public.

Other than pocketability, It’s still an all around great vaporizer giving a full 2 hours of use per charge and has come down in substantially price since the Air was released. Click here for the full review.

#10 -Pax by Ploom

Pax Vaporizer Review -Mid Range -Best of the Mid Range Herbal Vaporizers-Performance:  88/100

-Vapor quality:  87/100

-Pocketability:  98/100

-Discreetness:  98/100

-Usage time per charge:  60-75 minutes

-Price:  $$$

-Overall: 82/100

For years the Pax by Ploom was one of the most popular vaporizers around. The original Pax is quite similar both in design and in function to the newest incarnation: the Pax 3.

Like the latest 2 versions, the original Pax utilizes a stainless steel heating chamber and vapor path. The Pax offers about an hour to an hour and a half of actual vaping time per charge and preforms nearly as well as the newest models.

Unlike the Pax 3 though, the original Pax is only made for dry herb and is not compatible with concentrates. Although it’s still a great vaporizer it is still pricey for a vape in this category and unfortunately, hasn’t come down too much in the last couple of years. Click here for the full review.

#11 -The Firefly

Firefly Vaporizer Review -Mid Range -Best of the Mid Range Herbal Vaporizers-Performance:  82/100

-Vapor quality:  88/100

-Pocketability:  92/100

-Discreetness:  85/100

-Usage time per charge:  Roughly 40 draws

-Price:  $$

-Overall: 80/100

The Firefly is another well adored vaporizer. It was named because the glow the heating chamber emits while in use resembles that of a Firefly.

The Firefly is unique in that it offers more user control than most other portable vaporizers. It is a convection vaporizer meaning that the herb is heating by air instead of contact. As you inhale, you draw super-heated air around your herb which vapes it on demand.

The Firefly is designed to feel almost like a pipe in use. The main drawbacks for me are the short usage time (only about 40 draws per charge) and the fact that it’s really easy to over engage the oven and burn your herb. Read the full review here.

Final Thoughts

Best Mid-Range Portable Weed Vaporizers: Found, Tested and Reviewed. I am always amazed how fast things have advanced with vaping, especially herbal vapes in the portable category.

This site started featuring just 5 vaporizers in total and has grown remarkably quickly in the last few years.

Of all the vapes listed on this site, there are at least twice as many that never “made the cut”. Some of them were passable, but with the number of great vaporizers on here now, “passable” just isn’t good enough anymore.

This page will be continually updated as newer vapes take over the current top-tier spots and those vapes move down into mid-range or older vapes sections.

For now, each of the vaporizers listed here are fantastic with weed, while some vape concentrates well.

My focus has usually been primarily on dry herb, although I find myself enjoying concentrates more and more as time goes on and new devices arrive. I have started a section for concentrate vaporizers and I fully expect that to grow as this section has.

If you haven’t found the vape you were hoping to find in this section, definitely check out the top-shelf and budget sections too.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoy my reviews of the best cannabis vaporizers I have found so far. Stay tuned for more!
