Best Portable Vaporizers for 2017 Reviewed -The Solo by Arizer

The Arizer Solo is still another fantastic portable vaporizer choice for 2017 brought to you by the same company who introduced The Extreme Q desktop vaporizer. Many veteran vapers argue that the Arizer Solo is still one of the best portable vaporizers on the market today. Is it?

Let’s take a quick overview and look some of the pros and cons before we get fully into the full review.

Overview

Pros

  • Solid build, quality components
  • Durable
  • Fully glass vapor path
  • Heats up quickly

The Review

As you can see from the above, like The Ascent, there isn’t really too much to complain about with the Solo. I still prefer the Ascent but many argue passionately about The Solo being the best portable vaporizer around.

I do agree with many of their arguments and there are some definite advantages with the Solo over the Ascent. The biggest would be ease of cleaning the glass insert (herb chamber) as shown below.

Just based on shape alone, the round shape of the Solo herb chamber is easier to clean resin out of than the oval shape of the Ascent insert. There are no hard to reach corners with the Solo because of the round shape of the chamber.

Other than that, for me the Ascent wins hands down, but that really is just personal preference as in terms of vapor production and quality, the Arizer Solo performs equally well to the DaVinci.

Part of why I personally prefer the Ascent is because of the size and shape of the unit itself. Where the Arizer is shaped like a small soda can, the DaVinci is closer to the size of the first generation iPhones. It just fits in a pant or suit pocket much better and more conveniently. I find the Solo is impossible to hide and makes noticeable bulges in whatever pocket I have it in.

That being said, it does fit well in my hand and if pocket-size isn’t a huge concern, if for example you carry a purse or use it in your car, the Solo is a fantastic vaporizer and will provide clouds of excellent tasting vapor within seconds of turning it on.

Like the DaVinci, the Solo also features a completely glass vaping path from the heating chamber right up into your mouth. The configuration is completely unique with the Solo and the glass chamber and vapor path are one solid piece as shown below.

The Solo is a great vaporizer for those looking for the most from their herb and the true natural flavor and aroma. The flavor comes through with the Solo as well as it does with the Ascent but, the battery life is only half as good, giving about 2 full hours of use per charge.

For most vapers it works out to anywhere from about 10-15 full sessions per charge. Obviously that depends greatly on how long you sessions are. Personally, my average is about 10 minutes at a time. The Solo will shut itself off after 10 minutes to conserve the battery but I find for me, that’s usually enough.

If your primary concern in a portable unit is vapor quality over discretion, this may be your vape. The vapor quality rivals any of the best vapes on the market today.

The Solo is a great vaporizer for anyone using a vaporizer for the first time as well because it’s so simple to use. Fill the glass chamber with you favorite herb, choose between 7 preset temperature settings, push the stem into the oven, wait a few seconds and vape away! Use the convenient up and down buttons shown below to select your desired heat level and the Solo does the rest for you!

No need to remember temperature settings, just what number you like from 1-7. To find the right setting for you, start at around 2 and work your way up. Most users agree that somewhere between 4-6 usually works best.

The heat light shown in the image below let’s you know when you when you’re at the right temperature so you aren’t vaping too early. I find a nice slow draw works best usually lasting 5-10 seconds. That’s more than enough for a lung full for most.

Once the proper temperature is achieved, usually within about a minute, the vapor production is impressive and thick. If it was more convenient to carry, I might have a hard time choosing between the Solo and the Ascent as my go to portable vaporizer.

The only other thing I noticed that I didn’t really like about the Solo compared to the Ascent or even the Mighty, is the draw resistance. It was a little on the hard side. There were times when it felt a bit like sucking a milkshake up through a straw. Not a huge deal, but I would like a little more airflow just to ease the inhale a little bit.

My typical solution to that is to just raise up the glass stem a hair inside the heating chamber to give a little extra room for airflow. That pretty much solves that issue and then allows for some great vapor production.

Not my personal favorite, but an all around solid choice and overall, a great portable vaporizer.

The Verdict

Best Portable Dry Herb Vaporizers for 2017 Reviewed. The Arizer Solo ReviewPersonal preference aside, if it was based purely on vapor quality alone, the Arizer Solo easily ties the Ascent and is still one of the best portable vaporizers, even in 2017.

The drawbacks for me are the size and shape of the unit itself making it difficult to carry discreetly in a breast or pants pocket. That being said, that is less of a concern if you carry a purse or use it primarily in your car or office. It fits comfortably in the hand and is just heavy enough to feel solid.

If you are seeking a high quality portable vaporizer and are less concerned with stealth, and are more focused on vapor quality itself and solid, well functioning  machine, this is a great choice. I find it a pleasure to use around the house, even walking around with it, and I also like the fact that it can be use while charging.

On the go, I still continue using primarily my Ascent only because the battery lasts almost twice as long and it’s just so much easier to carry in a pocket. Having to carry two pieces around (glass stem and the unit itself) with the Solo for me is a no-go especially when the Ascent is integrated in one.

That being said, if you like the design of the Solo but are looking for something smaller and more pocket sized, check out the new Arizer Air as well. The battery only lasts about 60 minutes per charge but it is a lot smaller than the Solo and fits in any pocket easily. It’s basically just a more pocketable version.
