Firefly 2 Review

Firefly 2 Vaporizer Review -Best Portable Cannabis Vaporizers: Found, Tested and ReviewedBest Portable Vaporizers for 2017 Reviewed -The Firefly 2 Review

One of the portable vaporizers I have gotten the most questions about lately is the Firefly 2. Like the Pax 3 and the DaVinci IQ, it has been quite highly anticipated by many including myself since it was first announced.

I liked the original Firefly once I got the hang of using it but there were some drawbacks which kept it from being a go-to favorite of mine. Most of those have been addressed in the newest model and it’s gained quite a bit of ground in my opinion.

The Firefly 2 is a convection vaporizer like it’s predecessor and produces some remarkably smooth, pure and potent vapor.

Let’s take a quick overview once again before we get into the review itself, shall we?

The Review

Firefly 2 Vaporizer Review -Best Portable Cannabis Vaporizers: Found, Tested and ReviewedThe Firefly series is iconic. It’s unique design and orange glow while in use make it unforgettable and quite novel to use.

Part of the reason I hesitated in writing this review was I wanted to make sure I had a good feel for it first. With the Firefly, both the original and this updated version, there is a slight learning curve to getting the best vapor.

The Firefly 2 is the closest to smoking of any vaporizer I have ever used. The way you hold it and draw on it is like having a super high-tech pipe in your hands. It kinda feels like smoking in a sci-fi movie.

It certainly is one of a kind. It’s almost like a suped-up Magic Flight Launch Box but much easier to use and more satisfying overall.

The original Firefly was a pleasure to use, but there were some drawbacks. My 2 biggest complaints with the original were the exceedingly low battery life per charge and how easy it was to burn your herb. I’m happy to see that they have both been addressed in this latest model.

The battery life has been addressed by not only increasing the holding capacity to a full 770 mAh, but they now include a spare in the box as well so you can swap it out on the go.

Firefly 2 Vaporizer Review -Best Portable Cannabis Vaporizers: Found, Tested and ReviewedAlthough having the spare doubles your vaping time during the day, the one drawback to the way the battery was designed is the fact that you need to have the battery installed in the device to actually charge it.

For myself, there is enough battery time between the two to get through a work day no problem as I usually get about 4 sessions per battery. If you want to charge while you’re out though, you’ll need to bring the cradle along with it making it less convenient in terms of portability.

The Firefly 2 now allows you to adjust the temperature applied to the bowl between five preset temperatures for dry herb and one for concentrated material which is a huge improvement over the original. You can now adjust between 340-420 for herb or 500 degrees for concentrates.

Changing the temperature setting on the bowl does require using the app but I found it pretty easy to do. Just remember to have your phone with you when you start a session!

Firefly 2 Vaporizer Review -Best Portable Cannabis Vaporizers: Found, Tested and ReviewedThe Firefly 2 suits my vaping style a lot more than the original because I can start it off low at 360 degrees and work my way up to 420.

With the additional 11% boost variance available with the “Power Tuning”, if need be, it goes up to around 466 degrees for dry herb, or 111% power. The Firefly 2 features a higher setting for concentrates at 500 degrees which works really well with hash, shatter etc.

The Firefly 2, like the original features a very well designed magnetic lit which is the whole top of the unit and the top half of the Borosilicate glass vapor path. The design is spectacular in both function and form and it’s a pleasure to load. As far a vapor quality, purity and flavor are concerned, the Firefly 2 is as good as it gets.

The overall experience is different that most other portable vaporizers, where you simply turn it on and vape continuously for 5 or 10 minutes, the Firefly is known for it’s on demand heat which allows for much more user control. That being said, the vapor quality and density will greatly depend on how you use it.

For me, I find the best way to get the most vapor is to over-exaggerate how long and slow I draw on it. I hold the firing buttons for the full 30 seconds before it goes back into standby mode and I inhale really slowly the whole time.

Firefly 2 Vaporizer Review -Best Portable Cannabis Vaporizers: Found, Tested and ReviewedThere is a lot of airflow so it almost feels more like sipping the vapor rather than drawing. It took me a few times before I got the best results but once you get the hang of it, it really is remarkably good.

The concentrate pads and high temperature work the same way but I find it quite a bit easier to get great results with concentrates, you don’t have to over exaggerate the “sipping” style as much.

The Firefly 2 is good when your are in a rush and only have a minute to stop and medicate, or when you have a really busy day with only brief intervals to take a breather.

The on-demand heating makes it awesome for days when you have 19 things on the go and are never sure when the next thing is coming. You can always take a few seconds and still get pretty good results.

Although holding the device and puffing on it is far from discreet, due to it’s pipe-like vaping style, it is quite discreet on the level of odor. Because you are only firing the oven only when you are ready to vape, there isn’t any wasted herb vaporizing in between inhalations, and the odor is greatly reduced as a result. It is more economical too because you are inhaling every last bit of vapor from your herbs.

It is without question among the best portable vaporizers I have tested and is a pleasure to use. It is a top tier vape though and the price does reflect that. If you are on a budget, this vaporizer wouldn’t be my first suggestion although with the money saved on herb, like any other vaporizer it does eventually pay for itself.

It’s a great vape which I would like even more if I could charge the spare battery while still being able to vape! For anyone who enjoyed the original Firefly and is considering the upgrade I do think it’s more than justifiable just based on the variable temperature options, the high concentrate temperature setting and the boost feature.

It’s not only much easier to use than the original, it’s much more pleasurable overall and the added temperature control really allows you to get the maximum benefit from your herb. For anyone with the budget, it a great choice.

The Verdict

Firefly 2 Vaporizer Review -Best Portable Cannabis Vaporizers: Found, Tested and ReviewedAs usual, I guess the review itself was pretty clear as far as where I stand with the newest Firefly.

It’s a really fun vaporizer to use that is also novel and quite a conversation starter! I do find people pretty intrigued by it when they see me using it for the first time.

The design is spectacular, it’s very well made and the materials are all top-notch. My only real issue with the Firefly 2 is the way the batteries need to be installed in the unit to be charged.

The batteries themselves are an improvement over the original which only offered about 35-45 draws per charge. I’m getting a good 3 to even 4 full sessions on a single battery now so I’m happy there.

The vapor quality is as good as any on the market right now and the concentrate performance is also awesome. It is on the expensive side compared to the majority and wouldn’t be my top pick on a budget but it is a lot of fun to use and certainly worth it in my opinion. Take a look for yourself!
