Best Portable Vaporizers for 2018 Reviewed -The Utillian 721 Review
The Utillian 721 is the newest update from Utillian which replaces the beloved 720. The 721 is one of the few truly affordable fully convection portable vaporizers currently on the market. It produces some of the thickest, most flavorful vapor of any vape around.
The Utillian 721 easily gives the Mighty or Crafty a run for their money, yet is only about half the price. Let’s take a quick overview before we get too far into the review itself, shall we?

To say I’m impressed with the new Utillian 721 would be an understatement. It’s a sleek, attractive, durable, ultra-pocketable, high performing personal vaporizer.
I’ve been using the 721 exclusively with dry bud when I’m on the road for about a week now, just to get a good feel for it and find any kinks there may be during daily use.
What a great week it has been! Other that the Mighty (or Crafty), I have never had a vaporizer as easy to load and use on the go.
I just make sure I have enough herb ground up for the day and drop a pinch or two into the oven whenever I feel the need.
As a fully convection vaporizer, packing and stirring are completely unnecessary and you have can sessions as long or short as you’re in the mood for.
Since the herb in the chamber is only being heated and vaporized while you are actually drawing air through it, it’s even more economical on weed than most conduction vapes. I’ve even tested it using just a small pinch of weed, less than 0.1/gram and still got great results.
The Utillian 721, like the 720 is a dual use vaporizer capable of vaporizing not only dry herb but concentrated material (hash, wax, shatter, etc.) as well using the concentrate can shown below.
Simply drop in a dab of wax, shatter or hash, load the can into the heating chamber and it’s ready to go within seconds of turning it on.
I’ve personally only used it with hash a couple of times so far, but it has performed as well, if not better than both the Firefly 2 and the Pax 3.
For myself, where this device really shines is with my weed. Every strain I’ve vaped in it so far has been outstanding. The flavor purity and thickness of vapor are as good as it gets.
Using the device, whether it be for dry herb or any type of concentrate is as simple and straightforward as it gets. The top is held in place by one rare earth magnet, and just poops off when you’re ready to load it up.
The entire user interface is accessed by one very comfortable button which is pretty intuitive after a day of so of use.
Five clicks turns the device on and lights up the top and bottom LEDs. The color on the top indicates the heat setting currently selected while the bottom color indicates remaining charge in the battery.
There are four heat settings available plus a boost option which adds 5 degrees to any setting, at will. Green is the lowest at 338 F, blue is 356, purple represents 374 degrees and finally red is 410.
To change the temperature setting, simply hit the button twice to cycle up to the next setting. To activate or deactivate the boost function, hold down the same button for 5 seconds.
The top LED blinks when the oven is heating up and stays lit when the temperature is achieved.
It’s pretty sensitive because even as you draw on it the LED will blink as the temperature drops slightly.
I’ve gotten to the point where I match my draw speed with the device to keep the temperature constant for the full draw. I’ve even started direct-lung inhaling 10-20 second draws. Hits are quite powerful that way!
It’s a fantastic vape alone and it’s easily able to satisfy myself and a couple of friends if I fill the chamber up completely. I’m continually blown away though when I’m alone, how little I actually need to load for a nice small 2-3 minute session during the day.
Utillian includes all you need, from the concentrate can to the charger and even a replacement mouthpiece, screens and o-rings. They even included some goodies, like a cleaning tool, dabbing spoon and tweezers (shown below).
All in all, I’d say it’s an awesome kit and in my opinion, one of the best new vaporizers to come out this year. Personally, I find the Utillian 721 most comparable to the Crafty and Mighty series by Storz & Bickel, however it definitely has some advantages over both.
The Utillian 721 is about the size of the Crafty, lasts as long as the Mighty and is about half the price of either. I also find the Utillian much more attractively designed and far more comfortable in the hand.
I have had more fun testing this vaporizer than any I’ve tested in several months! I have tried it in virtually every situation I encounter in my daily routine and it performed splendidly every time.
I love the fact that the chamber doesn’t need to be packed in tightly and I really enjoy being able to tailor my sessions to the situation I’m in.
If I have something I need to do but just need to “take the edge off” as it were, I can literally add just one tenth of a gram or so and have a two-three minute session that has me mellowed and smiling but still alert and ready to work.
It easily fits into a pocket or purse and is ready to go whenever you are. The battery lasts a full 90 minutes of use, so that’s 18 five minute sessions during the day. More than enough for most of us.
It’s also extremely economical on herb too because you are only vaporizing your cannabinoids as you actually draw air through the chamber, so if you leave it sitting for a few seconds as you are doing something, there is no waste.
If you are a fan of convection vaping but don’t want the price tag of the Mighty, Crafty of even the Firefly 2, definitely take a closer look.
In my opinion the Utillian 721 outperforms then all, is more attractive and is quite a bit more fun to use. Take a closer look for yourself using the links below!
